Two highways go through the neighborhood, which is Kaumualii Highway and Koloa Road. Located in the center of South Shore, residents of Lawai have easy access to the beaches to the south, other rural towns along the highway, and various mountainside attractions in the region.

The neighborhood offers lovely green spaces, with winding roads and various terrains. Most homes are either on cesspool or have already been upgraded to a septic tank. Residents are a short drive from the beaches of South Shore, which offer some of the best oceanfront developments in the region.

Lawai has no oceanfront properties as the closest beach is a short drive to the south. It frequently rains in Lawai and can be cold in the evenings with lots of humidity typical in an elevated region with a Tropical climate.
