Schools On Kauai

For locals moving to a new neighborhood or families planning to move to the island with their children, discovering which schools serve which towns is an important consideration before making a home purchase. Schools on Kauai are managed by the state’s Department of Education, which helps ensure educational institutions in the region can provide quality education for their students.

Public schools on the island are divided between three sectors, which are Kapaa, Kauai, and Waimea. The Kapaa section includes schools in the North Shore districts, which are Hanalei Elementary School, Kilauea Elementary School, Kapaa Middle School, and Kapaa High School. The Kauai complex includes the schools from the town of Lihue up to the South Shore district. Schools in this complex are Wilcox Elementary School, Kaumualii Elementary School, Koloa Elementary School, Chiefess Kamakahelei Middle School, and Kauai High School. The last section is the Waimea complex or the public schools in the West Side portion of the island. Schools here include Kalaheo Elementary School, Eleele Elementary School, Kekaha Elementary School, Waimea Canyon Middle School, and Waimea High School.

Other educational institutions on the island include four charter schools, eight private schools, and the Kauai Community College.
